MacDailyNews Note: 90% of the nation's population is within 45 minutes an Apple store (37 to 48 miles), according to Apple Inc.

From that article- does anybody know where this comes from- this just can't be right. They are including best buy no doubt but still- this seems out of context or something.

On this-
"Apple was organized in a way that was bound to lead to neglect of the Mac and the retail channel. The 10 members of the company’s executive team include a senior vice president who is responsible for the iPod and nothing else. Another is in charge of only the stores Apple owns. No one’s sole responsibility is the Mac. The Mac’s sales are under the purview of the chief operating officer, Timothy D. Cook, who has other things on his plate, like running the entire company," Stross reports.

This is an excellent point. But I think it is a bit of a misnomer, maybe somebody can help me out here. Avie Tevanian who was EVP was the Mac guy. he was the equivalent of Rubinstein on ipod once. But his title was engineering VP. Who is the new engineering VP? My belief is the traditional Apple engineering VP and Marketing VPs are basically "Mac people".

But this comment from Stross is perceptive. now that we have the iphone, the ipod and Mac entailng HW and SW, there probably needs to be a new management structure. The retail guy should stay where he is.
