AL is a direct competitor of Northern Rock. While northern rock is really under attack, many people think that Alliance Leicester is on the same questionable path.

The stated documentation and ARMs problems seem to be even more widespread in the UK. Subprime lending is less prevalent (only 10% compared to 22% in the US).
