I think you've nailed it. If I was a Democratic strategist all I would do is continue to put Bush into the position of defending the comitment to Iraq. Bush, and the Repubs by default own it already - I'd just keep having Bush defend it and extend it.

Its a bit cynical and probably cowardly because, really, the Democrats should do all they can to end the war sooner.

A lot of pretty smart people here on SI are predicting fairly large amounts of doom regarding the fallout from the housing market on the economy. So far things are unfolding as they have prognosticated with employment taking the first big hit. Most sub-prime is still set to reset over the next 12 months - perfect timing for the Presidential election.

The Republicans are really going to be up against it if the Dem's can also hang a "Bush recession" around their necks.

How's everybody feel about a female President with a black Vice-President with possibly a massive majority in Congress?
