>>i am,with all and absolute seriousness, thinking about what to do, starting now, about financial assets in the keeping of others (brokerages, banks, insurance companies)<<

Been thinking about it all weekend. I expect a lot of people in the USA will be reviewing the FDIC rules, and dispersing funds to multiple banks as a precaution. Will stop by my local gold bullion dealer soon to see if they've had an uptick in business.

Gordon Brown is the guy who gave us that wonderful gold buying opportunity a few years ago.

We should be ready with cash (currency ?) to grab his next gift ;-)

Your problem in Hong Kong is that good management (Donald Tsang) results in fewer bargain opportunities than management by Uncle Al KBE or Gordon Brown.

What you need are idiots. The United States has the largest Strategic Idiot Reserve in the world. This was recently enlarged after events in Taiwan lead to concerns about the proliferation of idiots.
