<<last night i attended a gathering of about 100 bankers, lawyers, accountants, c-class officers of large global and regional companies, in the majority of either scottish or english extractions>> ... was my specific writeup, and

I now report the scotish gents are mirthful, as their position / stance is good for the current reality, regardless of geographic region, and having naught to do with what has and will happen to the english. the scots, at least in hk, do not actualy view themselves as having much to do with the english, other than holding same passport

the english folks? as long as they are in freedom hong kong, they can still be mirthful, and in fact are, as their homeland descends into chaos and get bogged down in crisis, as they themselves are not liable for tax, take no part in rescue, must keep busy with capital flight of homelanders, and can look forward to purchasing vacation property on the very cheap back in the homeland from homelanders newly bankrupted

so, all in all, i would expect all who was at that gathering to be even more mirthful than before, epecially with regard to the adventure in the desert, now that the american surge in mesopotamia has shrivelled to surge-lite, and trending toward surge-less and eventually to hit upon surge-not-at-all

The thing to remember about bank run is this. One there is a panic to withdraw money from a particular bank, virtually people are merely moving their money to a different bank. So there is no money being created. Once you guarantee all the deposits fully, the money doesn't go anyplace, it isn't even transferred from one bank to another.

Money creation occurs when new money is lent to allow investors to leave their investments for other investments or banks. In this event you have twice the money.

Gordon Brown's 100% bailout of Northern Rock? Do they want him to bail out other troubled UK lenders like Alliance & Leicester, or Bradford & Bingley? Have they contemplated how far the British pound will drop if he throws everything into the gaping maw of the ravenous beast?
