Nadine, I am really interested in knowing whether or not you think it would be useful to look at Israel objectively. You know more about Israel than anybody else on this thread -- or so it seems. Yet you do not seem comfortable doing anything more than playing the role of the apologist. Would you be comfortable assessing the pros and cons of Israeli policy?

Most of the people on this thread think that Israeli/Pal conflict is all Israel's fault, because a) Israel exists when it shouldn't exist, or b) Israel is the "Western", richer and more powerful nation, so it has to be wrong, or c) Israel is the US' ally so again, it has to be wrong, or d) since everybody is really reasonable at bottom, all peace would take is a few Israeli border concessions so again it's Israel's fault.

Against these lame arguments, which betray a nearly uniform ignorance of the actual history and operate from false premises to boot, one is forced into mere refutation.

You want a serious discussion of the pros and cons of Israeli policy? Fine, great. Find someone who knows the actual history and context of Israeli policy and Arab policy. Then we can discuss the pros and cons of current policy. They certainly exist.
