that is weird. you would expect the behavior to be the same. i noticed the problem with 3 and 4 windows open. not sure about 2. it would be a big problem trying to view pages away from home.

I had tested it with three pages open prior to posting and it was fine....but just retested with six and saw the same behaviour as you saw on the iTouch.

also, while the screen seemed large enough in the store, when i actually tried to read a 1500 word article on it i found it laborious and a bit of a strain on the eyes. i'd say it took twice as long to read as on my Macbook.

I'm not sure how much they will be able to do about that. The zoom feature works well, but you are still reading on a 3.5" screen....so scrolling and potential eye strain are always going to be possibilities. I do think that there is a market for something between the iPhone and the smallest laptops. Of course, with Apple's pricing you will have to hand over your first born to get it ;-).

FWIW, here is a device that might fit your needs. Personally, it still looks big, but you are probably going to need a big screen if you want to regularly read 1500 word documents.

Unfortunately, foldable OLED's are still a long way away.

Video: Intel Menlow UMPC prototype, hot off the camera from IDF Beijing

Posted by Josh Bancrofton April 18, 2007
Some of my Intel blogger friends are attending IDF Beijing this week, and this morning, one of them sent me a heads up for this video they had just shot, showing a brand new second generation Ultra Mobile PC prototype, codenamed Menlow. This is the follow-up to the MID Linux based devices they have been showing, and is supposed to be out in 2008.

The device that gets demoed has a Silverthorne processor (based on the 45nm Penryn chip), which runs at 0.6 or 2 watts of power consumption. At 2 watts, it delivers the performance of a Pentium M (not bad at all). It’s smaller than current gen UMPCs, and I love the slide-out keyboard. Has a touchscreen. Expected battery life is 4 to 6 hours.

I really, really want one of these, and you can bet that I’m going to be hounding the folks in the Ultra Mobile group to see when/if I can get my hands on one. For now, just check out this video demo, and drool along with me.

(Update: Here’s the original post from Mark Parker, the guy with the hands on experience with Menlow, on the Intel Technology blog).
