Eisenhower stated he would NEVER engage in a land war in southeast Asia period. He was president EIGHT years and never sent more then 500 personnel to Viet Nam. Kennedy was warned by Eisenhower not to engage in a land war in Southeast Asia but ignored his advice. Kennedy DID send over 15000 troops to Viet Nam no way around this truth. And if you want to get technical about it we had advisor's in Nam starting 1945. So if you want to put the blame on a Present by who sent personnel there first it would fall to Truman. By the real responsibility goes to Kennedy.
