"I have seen what seven years of what you call good governance has done to this country."

You were not alive then.

What you have observed is seven years of out of control spending. If that is your idea of fiscal prudence then you had better get a bankruptcy lawyer on speed dial.

I will admit that it is refreshing to have a President with honor after living through the nightmare of the preceding eight years. Lets hope we never again allow anyone as unethical to be nominated, much less elected. Though it appears that the media liberals have their target set on violating that good sense in 2008.

Tax cuts would only be "free corn", if your salary or profits were really the government's property and they where being nice letting you keep a little bit of it.

but you want me to buy into some freedom fighter's theory on socialism when any educated fool knows that what was practiced in the Soviet Union was not socialism.

It was socialism. It wasn't some idealized version of socialism. It wasn't democratic socialism. It was socialism combined with a nasty dictatorship. But you did have government ownership of the means of production. I'd also add that it wasn't the best possible application of socialism, even if in the real world the ideal visions of it don't work, and any extensive application of it on a national level is likely to have very poor results. But ideal or not the Soviet Union was socialist.

socialism

1 : any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods

m-w.com

"The term socialism is often used to refer to an economic system characterized by state ownership of the means of production and distribution. In the Soviet Union, state ownership of productive property was combined with central planning."

"any educated fool knows "

This seems to be the problem. Educated persons with understanding know that the Soviet Union was a Socialist system. Stick around and you may grow beyond the educated fool stage, after all I did.
