Forex markets are the most fickle and dangerous there are, especially for leveraged speculators, as many Japanese housewives are starting to find out. I am continuing to keep the (relatively small) cash positions (in brokerage accounts that I manage) in FXY, believing that it is better than the dollar. Short term there will be fluctuations that I, like you, cannot understand.
