MFCAF has now become my largest portfolio position with the strong move in recent days. I ve decided that I will hold this at least until it gets listed somewhere and then reassess. This was a spin-off from khd, that fit the parameters to a t of the type of spinoff one should purchase according to Joel Greenblatt's first book, which I highly recommend. the information on it was very sketchy but the company has released a financial statment fo r 12/31/06 here:

massfinancialcorp.com

It would appear the Mr. Smith, who has done a fine job with the predecessor company is now back to doing what he does best, and I
am content to give him some of my money to manage. Especially given that the company holds shares in khd, a khd affiliate, and fully owns a swiss bank as well as other assets that I believe continue to make this worthwhile investment. The debt on the books represents a long term note payable to khd at about 4% interest in us dollars if im not mistaken. please do your own dilligence.

Plg hit a new high today continues to remain undervalued relative to DGC. I continue to be massively overweight here.

KRI.to a mongolian uranium play is recovering nicely up around 9% today. I am overweight here too. having initiated a position in the low 5s adding in the low 3s and after an errant GOM press release resulitng in share price being halfed i tripled my position below 2. Laramide, an australian company based in canada recently acquired 12% of kri by paying in shares and warrants a price that i equated to $2.68 canadian so I derived a great deal of comfort from that industry insider purchase. I believe they wouldnt have made the purchase if they didnt believe it was worth at least double that or over $5 canadian for sure. I am overweight here too because of the price rise. But I plan to hold until i see 5s.
STM.V is another uranium company that is also slowly recovering. its assets are US Based and it bought properties that they believed were economic at $30 a lb. I expect they will do quite well over the long haul.

As I stated on the value thread I just purchased some out of the money november spy puts as a little portfolio insurance. It is just inconceivable to me that US real estate, and banks will do poorly, the consumer will be adversely affected by fuel and heating costs yet the SPY will continue to flirt with new highs. It just doesnt make sense to me.

Last but not least SIL, I believe continues to be a misunderstood gem . I am hoping that 2008 will be the year they start to show good output from their mine and perhaps some nice results on other properties that the market price does not reflect.
