Behind the Anbar myth

Stop the presses! do you tell me that the Anbar sheikhs might have their own interests, separate from the Americans! O horrors! I had no idea! I'm sure General Petraeus will be completely shocked! This invalidates any idea that Anbar has flipped and the sheikhs who used to fight the Marines are now allies of America....

....if your only consistent rule is that America sucks, America must lose. And for a hard-leftist like Pepe Escobar, that is always the rule.

Actually, if this is the worst that Escobar can throw at the situation in Anbar, that the sheikhs are in a marriage of convenience with America and they detest the Maliki government (which nobody argued with in the first place), then Anbar must really be a shining success story.
