Get another little warrior. I've now decided to adopt terrier mixes, since the one we adopted 9 years ago has been such a pleasure. Fierce hearted little tyrants that want reward for all their work! Our (?) manchester/queensland heeler mix has us trained very well.

This is how smart this dog is.

We brought him home about 9 months old from a pet adoption at one of the pet places in town, and he hung around me the most, but we got him for my wife for company during the day. We still had 3 cats, and believe me they are very loyal to one human, and 2 of them were mine.
I digress.

One evening, Willow and I were sitting on the couch playing grab ass during a tv program and my wife got pissed because she couldn't hear it over the noise, so she pointed at me and said "very firmly" YOU, stop it! and then she pointed at Willow and said, "YOU TOO!"

He looked at her, then looked at me, saw my subservience, looked back at her, and got off the couch and got up in the chair with her and gave me that "look", and he's been her dog ever since! Gonna align himself with the Alpha by god.

Tyrants all of them, but they have good hearts.

You should find another companion champion.

"wouldn't know how to use one, though."

Point it and shoot...................no hesitation if someone sees your gun and doesn't back off. You are in deep S at that point.

I don't know what to do with one and that's what my husband told me to do. If a gun doesn't back someone off you have to shoot them or they'll get your gun and use it on you.
