I had a friend on an aircraft carrier and they had plenty of racial problems. It was no problem on submarines but we only had 3 blacks in a crew of 118.

If there is less racial division in the military, it's because everyone is forced to adopt a common culture. These Polly Annas who spout the slogan "Diversity is our Strength" are so naive.

At best diversity is a two edged sword. But it does make things more interesting.

The point is we moved beyond racisim 40 years ago. What we are dealing with now is friction between different cultures.

The military has a 0 tolerance policy against discrimination. Doesn't mean they'll kick your butt out but it is one of the most effective ways of working your way down the chain of command if you know what I mean....<g>
