I think it's a good idea but it is wildly inappropriate for a President to discuss the idea (as Clinton did). The school board meeting is the proper forum for that discussion.

I wore a uniform at a parochial school for 7 1/2 years and had no problem, because I really didn't care about what I wore to school. My son wore one at a charter school for 3 1/2 years and hated it, mainly because he disliked the pants waist and didn't care for polo shirts, though the material was very comfortable. It's easier for the school if they've traditionally had uniforms (parochial) or are just starting out (like the charter school). An existing school would have a tough time changing to uniforms unless the majority of parents saw it as a solution to a problem.
