I'm sure there are those on the left who would vote for bin laden if he were running... in fact, with all his recent videos and those liberal talking points on those tapes, one might think he's trying for the demohack party nomination...

Ah, it's not an individual thing.. it is nuts, moveon.org, teachers union, all unions, low income who have been democrats for generations and those who have strong convictions that republicans are for the rich, democrats for the working man. Of course we then have moral grounds, gays, abortion, war, etc.

Its not hard to see how any one running for democrat ticket and then the white house is tough to beat.. look at the dead beats they put before kerry, gore and they almost won. Except they really showed how stupid they really were on national tv etc.

Philosophically I understand what you are saying, but practically it seems odd that people can't separate between those that can impact their lives and those that cannot. I don't care that some skinny blond heiress goes to jail, but perjury and falsification of tax returns by a potential presidential contender should be enough to exclude her from consideration.
