I looked at our state requirements this morning, and you must be a U.S. citizen or have a Department of State consular report of birth abroad. (is that a prerequisite for a green card?)

A good friend has citizenship in Palau Micronesia, is married to a U.S. citizen, has her green card, has worked here for years, and she's got a valid driver's license, so there are exceptions. Somehow I doubt that illegal immigrants care one way or the other. They are probably some of the safest drivers on the road knowing they'll be deported if they get into an accident thus being found out. They are going to drive here and there are always exceptions.

I wouldn't care if the ILLEGALS have a driverws license, BUT I do care that they, or those who "appear" to represent them, use that license as an ID to register to vote.

Also wouldn't care, IF the ILLEGAL commits a crime while driving, and is picked up as an ILLEGAL and deported.

It depends on the State if the person has to have proof of identity, as in Birth Certificate, in their State to get a drivers license.

didn't realize you had to be a citizen to get a drivers license.
