"It's really time we got someone in the White House that not only has some sense but can communicate with these folks. If that's possible."

I am thinking that it isn't possible. They've bought into the idea that we are facing a unique threat, one that overshadows all of the ones in the past.

Which is nonsense on the face of it.

They are consumed with fears of so many things. Like Shorty and the chipmunks. Or the seatbelt extenders of doom. Despite them making no sense, they let it dominate their lives.

Which, isn't a big deal. It is their lives. But the rest of us are supposed to sacrifice to pretend to assuage their fears. If the things they want could actually counter the things they fear, we might even be able to work something out. But they want things that not only won't solve the "problems", but either make it worse or require us to give up very important things. Or both.
