If a government supplies basic services that you can trust, then it frees the individual from having to deal with it. The difference between a third world country and a first world country is that in the third world most of the population is spending all of it's time supplying it's own basic services and can't do the more specialized activities that advance the society. Much like with global warming and evolution, the right has problems understanding this concept. I think its because their money gets in the way.
