guys, the factories in china are contract factories, meaning they make things to spec, no more and no less, per design, without variations, full stop.

if any manufacturer is able to vary the design/spec/bill of materials per its own will, it would not get paid, and it is really that simple.

so, a few events happen ... the spec is not complete/detailed, the principal says "show me a sample", the factory responds, the principal goes thumbs up, the factory revs up.

mattel phucked up. the crib maker messed up. mattel realizes the wrongs of its ways, as it faces libel suit on the one hand and class action on the other. whichever the stronger case, mattel bends the other way.
