Musharraf :

Is not funding the Taliban
Read some history - he was funding the Taleban, and Pakistan was one of 2 countries to recognize the Taleban.

Is not trying to destroy democracy in Lebanon
He has done a good enuff job destroying democracy in his own country. check this out : news.bbc.co.uk

The other issues u raised are not relevant to India-Pak relationships - the ones that Arun pointed out are relevant issuees.

Yet, Musharraf is at liberty go where wants and say what he wants when he visits India.

Nadine,

I admire your detailed and well studied knowledge of world politics and history. Nevertheless, for all your knowledge and debating techniques, I wonder why your arguments are mostly driven towards an agenda, often matching the latest talking points being presented by the propaganda machine.

>BUT the head of the regime that kidnapped US diplomats in 1979 (the kidnappees say he was one of the kidnappers) and has been in a state of war the with the US ever since, he is owed NOT ONE diplomatic courtesy.>

Then why did the US deal with that regime during the Iran/Contra affair? Just goes to show that what goes around in the open is very different from what goes on behind the scenes. Therefore, what gets mentioned for the US public discourse is selective information to push towards a tacit approval of a pre-determined agenda which necessarily is not in the interest of the US public. All the emotional buttons are pressed - nuclear, Death to---, Islam, sponsorship of terrorism, holocaust denial etc. that just kill any sense of fair play that every american normally displays when dealing with people and institutions within the United States.

RE"if Columbia Univeristy wasn't filled with America - hating lefties"

Nadine listen to yourself.

I would suggest you are the one who hates americans......or those americans who disagree with you.

You fear them ...but need their support...no wonder you are so resentfull of them.

What would you do...close down all schools that question your policies?

>Is not presently engaged in killing American soldiers in Iraq>

Sunnis and Shias are killing American soldiers. Then why is Bush having photo opportunities with them?

>Is not arming the Shia militias to destabilize Iraq>

Does Iraq need any destabilization after a decade of sanctions followed by US attack?

>Is not funding the Taliban>

Isn't Taliban Sunni and Iran Shia? en.wikipedia.org

>Does not deny the Holocaust>

Do you take him as an authority on that subject? Does anyone? Only he comes off as a fool if he denies it completely.

>Is not funding Hizbullah and Hamas with hundreds of millions of dollars year>

Didn't Hamas win the election sometime ago?

>Is not trying to destroy democracy in Lebanon with a Hizbullah coup. and by assassinating opposition politicians>

Isn't Hizbullah supported by a significant percantage of people in Lebenon?

>Does not openly proclaim that the Israel will soon be destroyed and ought to be "wiped off the map">

I have read different interpretations/versions of that comment.

>Does not parade Pakistani warheads with "Death to the USA" and "Death to Israel" written on them>

Hasn't US been threatening Iran for a while? Didn't Iraq with support from USA attack Iran in which million+ iranians died. Any rational person will think that a regime that survived that war would show some defiance. (On the other hand they dealt with USA during Iran/contra scandal during the same war). Makes you wonder how the "nation" states work?

>Is not a fanatic Mahdist expecting the imminent return of the 12th Imam>

So? Many people in power hold strange religious beliefs. So did Mahatma Gandhi.
