Some say 50 years, some say 100, some say 150. So let's take your figure and say 100 years for a 30 inch rise. That rise will guarantee that 50% of the US population will have to move in the next 100 years and trillions of dollars in property will be submerged. So 100 years from now, you and I will be dead. But our grand children, and with biotech advances, probably our children will be alive to experience this impact. Why would you want your grandchildren to experience this?

In economics, we called this the tragedy of the commons or free-rider syndrome. It's when everyone abuses what belongs to all of us, because everyone figures that someone else will take care of it. Well, the Earth belongs to all of us and it is up to all of us to keep it healthy, so future generations will be able to enjoy.
