If there's not port on your stereo, you've got a few options without much hassle. If your stereo is old enough to have a cassette player, you can get one of these:

Otherwise, an FM transmitter works too:

It doesn't give you controls and you can't hide the iPod in your glove compartment. With those, you've got to retrofit route:

I recommend only trying the retrofit route from Crutchfield. The cassette and FM transmitter options sound horribly compressed on even average car stereos.

If you care at all about the quality of the sound (and my hearing is not well refined, I'm no audiophile), then go for whatever line-in direct connect solution you can get your hands on. It will sound substantially better than the first two options, IMHO.
