'Everyone's scared to death about the next domestic terrorist attack. If they vote against military programs, they stand the risk of having it used against them in the event of another 9-11.'

I disagree. Only FOX and the administration tries to keep it at the forefront. These days most Americans are more interested in the value of their houses, sending their kids through school, paying the high gas bills, saving for retirement ect.. Most realize terrorism is a risk never to be eliminated again just like natural disasters or nuts out in public with assault rifles blazing away that are much more common the past few years than another terrorist attack on American soil..

no disrespect-but in my view your thesis borders on rubbish.

The real problem here is that America is now in longer term 'decline', much the way the UK went before it. The torch has been passed and imo the Bush crowd played right into OBL's hands by squandering billions on weaponry, much of which will become redundant the more that adversaries gain nukes. OBL's real strategy was to defacto 'bankrupt' America economically by enticing Bushco to take the bait and Spend with a capital S militarilty. In effect, OBL played Bush for an over his head cowboy sucker who couldn't resist the macho thing and he was right.

My sense is that come Jan09 America will be embarking on a substantially different tack than it has been on for 6ys now--what a colossal mess--and most of us know it
