G4 Quicksilver Dual Gig - the cooling design is defective. The processor is at the top and the fan is at the bottom. The video card separates the top and the bottom and effectively separates the two rendering the fan useless so the faster dualies tend to melt.

I added two PCI powered fans at the bottom so its pretty loud.

It doesn't take a genius to know that heat rises.

Very untypical for apple to sell a design this bone headedly bad. I believe what happened was heat was not that bad of a problem on the original processor family chips or IBM promised Apple they had it licked in later models. When they got to mine the things fried eggs.

Otherwise its been a great computer considering I bought it used for $800 when similar Macs were going for $1600++. Still feels fairly fast but I'm looking forward to my next tower.

The fact that they are quiet is a big plus.
