When Toyota manufactures in the US using non union labor, they have a $2000.00 per car advantage just in health care coverage before any other costs kick in. Its a wonder that GM can even compete.

Emerging market automakers will hunt mature prey: Ghosn

FRANKFURT (AFP) — Carlos Ghosn, head of Renault and Nissan, said Friday that a major name among global automakers might be taken over by an emerging market rival in the coming years.

"I think that Chinese, Indian or Russian manufacturers will buy established automobile groups, or merge with them, or sign cooperative agreements," Ghosn told the German daily die Welt in an interview.

"It's natural," he said, adding that "China is going to become one of the biggest markets in the world and it is very likely that at least one Chinese manufacturer appears on the global market.

"There is no reason why an Indian automobile group should not play a global role" as well, Ghosn added.

Meanwhile, other changes were in store for automakers in Europe, Japan and the Unites States in the years to come, he forecast.

"It is certain there will be greater consolidation in the mature markets of Western Europe, the USA and Japan," the auto boss said.
