It's all about self confidence. The guy gets some self confidence and the others stand back. The guy thinks he's in command and this builds more confidence. That's has nothing to do with brains. The guys with real brains stand back listen, gives the rope for the guy to hang himself. I've been never the outspoken, standing up and taking control. Because I didn't have the self confidence. Second if someone contrdcits me when I am talking I become really threatening and agressive. I actually can't stand stupid people. Because I discover all that are results of how you were educated, I decided to put my daughter in the american school and not in a Brazilian school. Learning shoulder to shoulder with the sons and daughters of the elite of the city and a bunch of expats gives her the confidence, once going out of there not to be intimidated and learn how to better communicate. She's been doing really well on that respect. she was elected the mayor of the condominium we lived, representing the interests of the kids, and is now the class president of the 6th grade. Besides that we wanted her to play soccer, and playing soccer is a good way to learn how humans behave. Finally she got the hung of it and is playing constantly. Alpha male? This is for qualifying animals. Not humans.
