I went to school in that area. When I tell people how the park once was like, I get strange unbelieving stares and they say "really?"

One word to describe Bryant Park now: "Trendy"

Shops, restaurant, out door cafe, lots of people and kids enjoying the place.

Oh yeah (cough) lots of people sitting on benchs working on their Powerbooks (whew - yes this post pertains to Apple :-)). Not sure if there is wireless, but it is next to the Library, so maybe... (to those outside of NYC, this is THE library - the big one you see in the movies with the lions who roar when a virgin walks past - anyway well featured in the movie "Day After Tomorrow" ( abit under water in the movie, but still...

(cough cough more relevance) It's a nice place to visit after you've visted the Apple store on 59th street, a healthy walk of about 17 or so blocks filled with tons of interesting stores and buildings in between. Lindt chocolate....
