And regardless of whether you agree with ocean fertilization or not, isn't it CRITICAL to figure out why there are dead zones in the oceans?

But I've never said otherwise! At least, I don't think I have. In fact, I even suggested one reason for one pretty large dead zone in the Gulf in my last post to you. Nor have I said that ocean fertilization isn't an interesting and possibly very fruitful possible solution. What I did say was that there are multiple causes and multiple fixes. No one cause will explain it satisfactorily (for example, increased carbon emissions or decreased phytoplankton--both can and, so I believe anyway, have played a part in this), nor will any one act "fix" the problem.
