Oh, they were alright I guess. I can't help it, whenever I think of groups like the Kingston Trio I think of the Folksmen.

Not sure about the Kingston Trio in particular, but so many folk groups in the mid 60s were music majors in college, they didn't really grow up with those songs. They were technically good, but something was missing. If you want to hear good old American ballads, why not go right to people who grew up living and breathing those songs? People like Doc Watson, one of the best flat pickers ever.
