Lizzie -

Actually, the LED (Light Emitting Diode) displays that are becoming more prevalent in today's notebooks are still also LCDs (Liquid Crystal Display). The LEDs are used to provide the backlight for the LCD, in place of fluorescent tubes. It's the fluorescent tubes that are going to become extinct, not the LCD panels themselves. At least in the near future.
