Shanghai doubled so far this year. Brazil up by 30%, Thai bourse by 23%. Serbian 65%, Croatian by 51% and Lithuania is up by 20%. Even Africa is booming: the Nigerian market is up by 53% this year and Botswana’s by 57%. (The more developed South African market has jumped by 20%.)

C2 the flaw in your suggestion is that China will NOT be allowing any kind of vote on independence. The variation TJ is thinking of is whether the relationship should be like that of Shanghai, Hong Kong or Hainan.

Hu and his megalomaniacs are not in the slightest interested in the opinions of those who created the wealth of Taiwan. They want power.

Let's not be too gullible.

If a vote is allowed, it will be for ALL of China to have a vote on the matter. Those in favour of China owning Taiwan vs those against.

As TJ says, a big stick is needed in the form of multiple megaton blast, electromagnetic pulse and neutron stick. The megalomaniac Japanese responded well to such persuasion. China will do too.

China would do better to pursue 450MHz OFDM cybercerfing and peace, light, harmony, happiness, health, prosperity, longevity, fun and love. But there is something about dictatorial megalomaniacs which means they find such things boring. They want most of all to be bossy. That's what gives them their kicks. They are basically overgrown 2 year old spoiled brats. Show them a big stick and they calm down.
