Having argued at different times for each of those motives, I too have come to the same conclusion the Christisons have, that a combination of the three factors, Israel, oil and geopolitical advantage, is the most probable.

But, having said that, one must also recognize that all three factors redound to Israel's advantage. Therefore, whatever benefit the US obtains from the undertaking will be seen only tacitly, indirectly and in terms of Israel's immediate political, strategic and material advantage. Thus it is only when Israel is satisfied that all three objectives have been achieved, if ever, will the US be able to bring its troops home from Iraq and wherever else and declare an end to the War on Terrorism.
