No, it wasn't. I didn't say that, so I dunno what you are arguing against.

"It was tightened to try and maintain a strong dollar."

Mainly to deal with inflation. Now, you could argue that those were the same and to some extent they were.

"Also around the same time you had an increase in tariffs, which was later followed by an increase in other taxes."

Both of those occurred later.
