(NBC) -- A deadline is looming for international travelers. Relaxed passport rules come to an end on Monday.

Government officials expect a surprising upside to the new rules: delinquent non-custodial parents, also known as deadbeats, get hit the hardest when the rules take effect.

Starting Monday, U.S. citizens wanting to fly to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean or Bermuda must have a passport; proof of application for a passport is no longer enough.

The requirement are aimed at security, but government officials expect big benefits toward another goal of collecting child support.
