US FTC & Justice Dept. will still insist it is not a monopoly !

I'm not sure why you're laughing. A monopoly created by virtue of
superior products is absolutely legal.

There are a variety of illegal ways to create a monopoly, as discussed
here at length, including a wide variety alleged to have occurred years
ago by AMD.

What Intel did in the past, and any remedies for that will be decided
by various courts. But as far as I can tell, Intel is currently keeping
its nose clean.

If Intel administers a death blow to AMD by getting to 45nm early,
selling superior products at a profitable but low cost, and generally
advancing technology at a rate that AMD cannot keep up
with, they can very legally achieve a complete monopoly. And I think
that may very well happen. Unless, of course, AMD can figure out
a way to be profitable.
