One other thing: it is a stretch to assume that inflation stats coming out of the Eurozone are any more trustworthy than those coming from the US government.

A well publicized example from 2002 is the inflation related to the introduction of the Euro that was vehemently denied by the German government until the evidence could not be ignored. The German word for expensive, teuer combined with Euro became the Teuro
