It appears that you are emotionally invested in the concept of a crash." Well number 1 prices are not going up now. I live here too and have two eyes and see whats really going on. Things are not moving much out here in Richmond and prices are coming down and will come down further but you said something I think I needed to think about so I didn't respond to it earlier. This is the part about being emotionally invested in a concept of a crash. I'm sure later you will explain your emotional attachement to having home prices keep rising and you can show it to your kids in case they wonder why their father is among those who apparently don't care if they can ever afford to own a home here in Vancouver. So here is why I hope the housing market here crashes as it is doing in the USA which makes me ecstatic. Rather than tell you all the things I hate about Vancouver I'll for a change tell you what my Vancouver would look like. My Vancouver puts more emphasis on people than money, having fun without having to have ones fun approved by city hall, greedy corporations who set up so called festivals and then charge for booths and then make them too expensive for the average person and loads the place up with corporate sponsored booths and events. I see a city free from the inteference of the advertising control freaks that try to squeeze money out of people at every opportunity never missing a manipulative trick. I see a city that cares more about the rights of its own residents before the rights of offshore residents who speculate on homes here. My city has laws like in Australia that forbids the sale of existing residential real estate to non resident aliens and thus trying to keep the price of homes down so they are affordable for Australians My Vancouver is not a safe haven for drug money laundering from asia and other places and is not built from criminal money My Vancouver has less people but friendlier people and its roads are not jammed up by greedy corporations, governments and others who profit by increasing the poplation. My Vancouver is like many other places in the world where Gemutlikeit is the most important thing. My Vancouver is a discreet backwater that learned its lessons from places like Los Angeles, New York and other "world class" cities and whose people know how to shut up about the good thing they have and stop inviting the world through events like Expo 86 and Winter Olympics etc. and help keep the place from being over run by new people wanting to come here. My city doesn't have stoopid local residents who want to ruin everything that made my city great just so they can profit from more people being here regardless of how too many people destroy the quality of life making everyting inaccesible because there is no infrastructure to support them all. My Vancouver is tough on crime and a safe place to walk at night like it was years ago, free of criminal gangs and punk kids whose parents came here from some other country where respect for others is a dirty word. My Vancouver has a speculators tax on people who own more than one home for less than 1 year thus ridding the city of selfish flippers who care only about their own piggish desires (capitalists) and don't care whose dreams they destroy in the process. My Vancouver is a good place where money is put in perspective. My Vancouver isn't insecure to the point where they take pride that some paid off magazine writer didn't rate the city as the most livable city on earth or the best place on earth. My fellow citizens aren't brainwashed by nonsense like this and love their friends and neighbors in spite of it being number 10 or 20 or whatever. My Vancouver frowns on greed and gluttony. My Vancouver preserves the old and doesn't try to look like a cold lifeless glass computer generated city. I could go on and on. But this is my city and I'm not moving. I was here before half the people currently living here and know better than most of the newbies who are ruining the place. Guess I'll tolerate them for just a bit longer until I can't stand it anymore, but I hate the feeling of being chased out of my HOME. So, let it crash and I hope all the druggies that own thousands of houses, all the offshore investors that bought pre-existing homes which are still within their 'lifespan' and all the new realtors who are cashing in on the bubble, all the criminals who launder money through the housing bubble, all the liars and proaganda artists in the media who hype the bubble to its bursting point, all the realtors who bought into new projects hoping that the prices would keep rising in order to justify carrying too much weight in mortgages.. I HOPE THEY ALL ROT IN HELL AND LOSE THEIR SHIRTS IN THE COMING GREAT VANCOUVER HOUSING BUBBLE BUST Here's a quote from a European poll asking what city people thought was the most livable. I thik it is totally appropriate to the topic of home prices here --- "Everything Vancouver doesn't have.... "VIVA MADRID!!!!!!! I¨ve been in many cities in Europe and I must say that Madrid is the best city in Europe to live, especially in summer. You can easily find good food, good parties, good people and nicely places to go. And something very important: it is a safe city. It has a great culture, streets are clean, public transport is the best I´ve ever seen. You can go out at night all days during the week and you can know friendly and funny people wherever you go. The citizens are tolerant, the university is the best of Spain and one of the best in Europe, is the most international university in Europe, everyone who wants to study abroad choose Madrid!! The visitors have many good culture options Many times they forget that Madrid is not only a city to go out, drink and dance!!! It is more than that, It is a city where you must be more than a week to know it well and to understand why madrileños love their city. Madrid is a city with life, there are people 24 hours in all the streets, in the bars, terraces, parks…. COME TO MADRID!!!!!!!! " Vancouver SUCKS!"
