A harmful monopoly would have succeeded.

So is your logic that someone attempting murder, but thwarted at
the last minute by a fortuitous rescue is now proven harmless?
Because if they were harmful, they would have succeeded?

Intel tried to jam a lot of harmful things down the industry's throat.
Via and AMD prevented many of them from succeeding. But now
Via is a non-factor and AMD is working hard to become one.

So forgive me if the consumer in me is aghast at the prospect of
AMD mortally wounding itself by arrogantly overpaying for ATI,
screwing up on Barcelona and not keeping expenses under control.

But if Intel is finally going to succeed in driving AMD out of business
by means of superior execution, I might as well get on the bus.
Then when everyone is paying a large monopoly premium for
every CPU chip, I can at least enjoy my share of the profits.
