Lenovo and Compaq have the fewest repairs in CR, at 20%. Apple has the most--23%. That difference is not statistically significant

if you go back to my original message, you will notice an asterisk. the asterisk was placed there because i knew at some point an Apple fanboy would read that CR fine print and bring it up.

of course, even i did not think Apple fanboys could not subtract 23 from 20.

read what it says:

"Differences of less than 3 points are not meaningful."

is the difference between Lenovo and Apple less than 3 points? no, it is 3 points, which means it is "meaningful".

that means the conclusion of your message ("That difference is not statistically significant. That means that the reported difference is not large enough to rule out that it may have occurred by chance.") is WRONG. Apple's terrible reliability is worse than Lenovo's to a statistically significant degree.

How about giving this one a rest?

can you now see the arrogance in what you wrote? your conclusion is prima facie WRONG ; mine is right. and yet you are telling me to shut up.

nevertheless, i can see that this is really a faith-based community (to put it nicely) which has zero interest in rational discussion. so i will go elsewhere.

later.

Kip:

The first thing I did when I read Wyatt's post was to open my Consumers and check out his claim. Basically what the graph told me was that 1 out of five laptops, no matter what brand, needed some sort of repair. This stat agrees with my experience.

I didn't bother a reply because Wyatt is obvious out to provoke. He's not posting anything meaningful. His reply to your post was about what I'd expect.
