Gosh elroy what would you prefer ? a greater opportunity for a child to be a victim of a drive by shooting or a lesser opportunity of being killed for choosing a boy/girl friend outside the faith.

Judging by the stats, Saudi Arabia would seem a far far safer place to live than many a Christain US city.

You're changing the topic from "religion and violence" to "violence". Here's your initial topic, which was religion and killing in its name, where you imply it's often a fight for independence.

I'm just pointing out that (for Muslims) killing in the name of religion is also a restistance of independence when the independence is by those who want to live in a way other than that dictated by the religion.

I'm sure there are more murders in the US than in much of the Muslim countries, but to the best of my knowledge US killers (outside of abortion clinic bombers) don't kill their victims in order to (in their mind) uphold their religious beliefs. US killers are generally after the victim's money, in drug/alcohol fueled rages, or something else, they (usually) aren't killing for God. And they certainly don't kill their children for deciding that they don't want to be the same religion as their parents.

Judging by the stats, Saudi Arabia would seem a far far safer place to live than many a Christain US city.

Not for a Saudi that doesn't want to live like a Muslim. It's a danger zone for him worse than most places on the planet.

I can't think of any other religion where a family will kill one of their members who wants to live differently than them, and do it in the name of family honor.
