If one needs treatment, why is there even a consideration as to whether or not such services will impact profitability?

Because treatment costs $, and somebody must pay. Profitability is only a component of the treatment cost, not 100%. Money does not grow on trees unfortunately.

I'd also like a private island in the S. Pacific. Shouldn't someone give me one? Your statements look like you think society should collectively decide that medical care is a right for all. That is not much different than thinking that wealth, even great wealth, is a right for all. Fine with me if society comes to that mutual agreement, but one needs to propose a method for achieving it other than wishes.

What we are seeing is that unlimited medical care can drive us to bankruptcy. Look at how the medical insurance policies of retired workers have changed for large US corporations. Think GM, IBM, etc. What once looked like a nice comfortable, budgeted item started eating them alive. Do you really think this is 100% attributable to profit at insurance companies?

No - God IS the Corporation!! No right answer until We have National Health Care - Medicare could do it because of low overhead/no need for profit. Just have to get a handle on all these costly tests - pure stupidity. And they need to bargain on the price of meds - which now Bush has made against the law!! JMHO - OT - Sorry thanks for Your time - Paul PS: The Great American Dream = Marry Someone with Family Coverage!! Paul
