What's with the Man keeping Elton down?

(COMT EX) Elton closes controversial art exhibit ( U nited Press International )

GATESHEAD, England, Oct 2, 2007 (UPI via COMTEX) --
A photo exhibition at Gateshead's Baltic Arts Centre has closed months
earlier than scheduled after police removed a controversial image.

Although a photograph called "Klara and Edda belly-dancing" by Nan Goldin,
was seized as part of a police child pornography investigation, the rest of
the 148 photos owned by pop singer Elton John, went on display as planned,
the BBC said Tuesday.

But the rock icon requested the "Thanksgiving" exhibition be closed Monday.

"Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, at the request of the Sir Elton John
Photography Collection, has closed the exhibition," a spokesman for the
gallery told the BBC.

"After the removal of one image from the series, it was no longer possible
for Baltic to exhibit the collection of works as the artist intended.
Therefore Baltic is sympathetic to Sir Elton John's request and supportive of
the decision."

The photo in question depicts two naked girls.

Northumbria Police are examining it to see if it violates pornography
legislation.

A spokesman for Elton John said the photograph had been exhibited around the
world without objections.
