Re: Russia's worst nightmare is to see her influence in Central Asia (the "stans") eaten away by two Muslim nuclear powers --Pakistan and Iran.

Maybe so, but then why does Russia build Iran's reactors and other nuclear facilities?

Because if Russia doesn't help Iran's nuclear ambitions, others will... France comes first to mind --remember Osirak? Granted, now with Zionist Sarkozy at the helm, it's very unlikely that Iran will get any help from France --but that's a pretty recent twist. Until four months ago, France was ruled by Jacques Chirac, that is, the very same man who, back in the late 1970s, was instrumental in building Iraq's first nuclear plant.... So, the second-best plan for Russia --if she can't stop Iran's nuclear drive-- is to, at least, have an insight into it --to stay in Iran's nuclear loop.... Besides, Russians are seasoned chess players --they know how to "gambit" the Iranian pawn. Hence they likely anticipated --and secretly welcomed-- the US/Israel will to thwart Iran's nuclear endeavor. Once again, Russia expects the US to do the dirty job in her behalf --just like in Afghanistan.

Re: Russia and Israel are eye to eye on the Iranian issue

Again, hard to believe when Russia sells Iran all its latest military ordinance, especially missiles.

Russia's "latest military stuff" is worthless --just ask the Iraqis.
