Gold and silver spiking have something to do with the U.S. Dollar's recent downtrend. People need to park their money in solid assets and the once mighty U.S. Dollar is no longer such a solid and safe currency in which to park a great deal of money. The Canadian Dollar is now at par with the U.S. Dollar (mainly because of all the oil and natural gas Canada has and produces). Congrats to our friends to the north, but we are suffering from not having a currency backed by tangible assests like oil.
