When it was the other way around all over SI many on the left where claiming it was some conspiracy of the oil companies.

I didn't.

Do you agree that oil and gasoline prices going up at different rates isn't evidence of something sinister?

To a degree.......unlike you, I have a healthy distrust of any large corporation and believe the needs of people should come before corporations. That means I do think the refiners have conspired to a degree informally to not build any more refineries in this country to insure there will less of the boom/bust effect in their industry. At the same time, I don't think the refiners' profit margins are excessive. On the contrary, I think they probably fall at the mid to low range of profit margins. They only look big because companies like XOM are so large and command considerable revenues.
