I wish I could link to the Wall Street Journal article today pointing out how the tradiional business community, so long republican, is deserting them. It is a great article and well worth the time. I makes the points several people have made here: The republican party in power today looks nothing like the small-government, fiscally conservative, cautious on nation-building, big on privacy rights party of the past.

The business community doesn't care about gay marriage or abortion. They want fiscal integrity and consistent business policy. Greenspan is quoted, as are several other long-time republicans who have left or are leaving the "new republican party".

Maybe most disturbing: The money that used to go to republicans from this group is going to either Democrats or being held back.

Worth a look. Wish I had a link.
