Most of these government people buy into the story with "very compelling reasons" for why something needs to be done.

Eisenhower's military-industrial complex is very much alive and hungry.

The economist, and governor of the Bank of France I cited in this post, Charles Rist,

Message 23926897

had a son Leonard who was a banker and ironically employed as the Director of the Economics Department of the World Bank.

Interesting stories. The World Bank has primarily been an instrument for implementing US government geo-politics, especially active during the Cold War.

The World Bank would go in and set-up a Monetarist money-inflato system in some foreign nation to make them more dependent upon the US.

In the ugly "Phase 2" American and European parasite corporations and banks would go in and loot the joint with the newly created money and the loans issued by World Bank, funded primarily by the US and Europe. The contracts would be divvied up based on what percentage of loan/gift funding was provided by each nation.

So part of each share of spoils were paid for by the victim nation and part by the taxpayers in each of the donor nations. A lot depended on how clever the leaders of the victim nation was in fending off this "assistance" from the US and Europe.

Rist got very involved in Singapore, and they turned out quite well, mostly because their leader was tremendously smarter than the jackals from Washington DC.

Re: Why even bother because what we need is more revenue streams for the 'capitalists' and more stuff for J6P<g>

J6P isn't the problem. It's the huge transfers of wealth that been made to Paris Hilton And Crooked Corporate Officers(PHACCO's?).

The last 8 years of Republican rule have had society's wealth siphoned off by a bunch of non-productive parasites who use it to fund Yacht building competitions.

Mozillo's embezzlement of $118 million from a company for which he had a fiduciary responsibility has been repeated thousands of times over to the point that it's having dire consequences to the overall economy. Mozillo's treated as a hero while a kid from the ghetto who steals a 3rd pack of gum gets 20 years of hell (at taxpayer expense).

It's obscene.
