Oh bull shit Mrs. Sarmac. Deterrence worked well. Reagan saw the opportunity with Gorby and took it. He never would have acted in the same way with brez in control. 80s came about because of 35 years of containment not in spite of it.

Nadine the point is that by 1980 detente had shown many russians that the west was not the threat it had been made out to be by soviet propaganda. re stalins empire...nadine ...if we follow your logic we should have let hitler eliminate stalin for us. Nadine you are very quick to call for war...but you have no idea of what it involves. You would seem to think a population has an unending tollerance of having its boys dying far from home . By 1944 we had to bring our boys back from europe...and send them to fight japan. by 45 we had to be seen as bringing them back home....not sending them back to die again in europe. Nadine, war is not a toy to be played with when it suits you...war takes planning and preparation ,both physicle and psychological ,as does the peace that follows.
