"Not every high in the economic cycle is so inflated. "

And you base this on what, exactly? Even at its peak, the dotcoms were but a tiny fraction of the economy.

"And once again the tax cuts didn't fully take effect until 2004"

Ok. Then if we take your thesis, then they didn't contribute to the recovery at all. There still was the stimulus of the deficit. Which is basically the equivalent of a tax cut, economically speaking.

"True, but Katrina was the most costly hurricane and 9/11 the worst terrorist attack in our history."

Come on Tim. It doesn't have to be a hurricane, you know. What about the quake that hit San Fransisco? We've had massive flood in various parts of the country that not only destroy towns, it wipes out crops. None of those depress the economy for very long or all that much. 9/11 was very localized. Tragic and horrible, but outside of the immediate area, not much. Now true, the WTC was the hub of a lot of things. But businesses have disaster plans for a reason. The dislocations were short term.
